Post-production techniques and processes (U3: P5)
Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.
Post-production process - Front Cover
First I inserted the photo I was going to be using and scaled it up to the right size.
Then I downloaded the font I was using for the title and typed the title name up.
Then I erased the parts of the title that were covering the models face.
I then added in my puff, price and barcode. And I also edited the colour filter of my photo a little bit.
Then finally I added in my cover-lines.
Post-production process - Double Page spread
I inserted the image I was going to be using for the double page spread and scaled it to the size I wanted.
I then removed the background as I didn’t want it to be included in the final product.
Then I changed the colour of the background and inserted the nae of the artist and added an outline to the photo to make it stand out more.

Lastly I inserted my body copy along with the social medias and Spotify code for my artist.
Suitability Review
A strength of my magazine is that I feel I have clearly displayed the Indie aesthetic through my use of my colour pallet and lighting. My use of dusty and muted colours on both my front cover and my double page spread strengthens this as I use these kinds of colours for many elements (such as my puff, title and background) which is a common aesthetic amongst the Indie genre. I also used a set colour scheme of around 5 colours which all complement each other so the magazine wouldn’t get too busy and be displeasing to the eyes. An additional strength is my use of lighting on my front cover. I managed to get a nice golden/orange tint to my photographs as the sun was just starting to set which created a golden hour which is also a common aesthetic seen amongst the Indie community.
My magazine double page spread has quite a neat and organised lay out which means it’s easier for the reader to understand what’s going on as it’s not too busy and there’s nothing else distracting the reader from what they’re trying to read. This means that buyers are probably more likely to reach for my magazine over competitors which may have a more busy or ‘messy’ looking layout. According to the gratifications theory, audiences actively seek out media to satisfy individual needs, as well as inform, entertain and educate the reader. I believe that my magazine does all of this as it informs readers about upcoming artists and concerts as well as entertain them.
The pictures on my front cover are an additional strength as they are taken of a teenager within the age gap of my primary target audience. This could increase the chances of teenagers in my primary target audience picking up my magazine as the featured artist on the front cover is more relatable to them as they are around the same age.
However there are some weaknesses to my magazine such as that it might not be tailored to the different branches of the Indie genre so perhaps not all Indie fans will be prompted to buy my magazine depending on the kind of featured artist we have for that month. Another weakness to this magazine is that my secondary target audience (the younger siblings of the primary target audience) might not find the design and layout exiting enough to catch their eye so they may be less likely to read it.
An improvement I can make to my magazine as a whole, would be to cater more towards the fans of other branches of the indie genre rather than just one. This would mean a wider target audience which would lead to more sales. A further improvement I could make is to try and make the design and layout suited towards my secondary target audience whilst still making it appealing to my primary target audience.
