Learning Outcome 3 (U21): Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions
Following the client feedback. I have decided to develop and build on each piece of feedback I was provided with. I have decided not to disregard anything, as I believe my developments will significantly improve my magazine.
Target Audience
The first point made by the professional that will help me improve my magazine is that my primary target audience of 13-19-year-olds was quite narrow and that I should broaden it because more people than just teenagers listen to Indie music.. I agree with this point as I'm offering the unidays service so it would make sense to expand my target audience to university students so I will widen my target audience to 13-25-year-olds. I understand that a con in increasing the target audience bracket is that not everyone would like the same content, but these improvements could hopefully increase sales for my magazine, as I have a wider target audience.
Number of Pages
The client then proceeded to talk about how making my magazine 180 pages may be a bit optimistic. He mentioned perhaps bringing the number of pages down to around 80. I agree as it means I can keep quality consistent. An advantage of taking action on this feedback is that I will be able to maintain consistent high-quality content for my readers as there are fewer pages to fill, however, on the contrary, if I decrease the number of pages in my magazine, there’s less room for advertisements which will lead to a dip in income. I will consider the feedback and make my magazine 80 pages until it gets more famous and well known, then I will make it 180 pages to fit more advertisements.
Distribution
The next point made was that I should distribute in places where my target audience would most commonly be, such as student areas. I will take this feedback and make sure that I will include areas such as school libraries, places like supermarkets and newsagents that are near schools and universities, and train stations that students are most likely going to be travelling to and from, as these are the places where my magazine can be exposed to people within my target audience. I could also make it available to students through student unions.
Terms and Conditions
Another point that was brought up was to be aware of, and make clear the terms and conditions when doing giveaways for tickets. I will take this bit of feedback into account and make sure to mention the terms and conditions of the giveaway on the page where the meet and greet details are presented. To do this, I will make sure to research the regulatory body who enforced these rules, to ensure I don’t breach any terms and make the terms clear and obvious to my readers. The regulatory body IPSO regulates newspapers and magazines and holds then accountable for their actions in order to protect individual rights and uphold high standards for journalism to help maintain freedom in the press. Using this I can make sure that I don't breach any laws and get held accountable for my actions.
Typos
And the last point made was that, as the professional was watching my presentation, he noticed a few typos in my PowerPoint. I will make sure to avoid this error in the future by proofreading my presentation, and also getting someone else to read over it so they can point out any mistakes that I missed out when reading it myself.
