Introduction

Hello everyone

This is my pitch for my indie magazine ‘Indigo’

I settled on the title indigo because i feel that the name is quite unique and memorable

The title is in the font ‘Indie Rock’ and is in the colour indigo which watches the title and conveniently fits my colour scheme

Purpose

The purpose of my magazine is to fill the gap in the market for indie based magazines and expand the indie fan base

My magazine will entertain, inform, educate, promote and advertise

Form and Pice

My magazine can be accessed online or in a print form

To access the £4 online version, you sign up on our website and input your payment details and we will email you every month with the new issue

To get a print version is will cost £4.99 a month because it costs more to print and deliver

I will offer subscription discounts such as an annual subscription which means my issues will only cost £40 a year rather than £48 a year

Students can be eligible for a 10% student discount if they use their school email

I will use matte paper for my print version as it allows the magazine to be recycled easily, and its also light weight

Genre

My magazine focuses specifically on the indie music scene in North London

I chose this genre as I felt there was a gap in the market to be filled, and there is a fairly large Indie music scene in North London that needs more attention

Content

The magazine will include interviews, information and articles on famous and up coming indie artists, Top charts for Indie music and information about future Indie concerts in North London

I will also include links to the magazines website and social medias

Target Audience

My primary target audience would be teenagers (13-19) of any gender and ethnicity. I chose this age bracket because around 13 is when you start to develop your own tastes, and Indie has a wide range of styles so hopefully more teenagers grown up to enjoy Indie music

The secondary audience would be siblings of the primary audience who are influenced by their older or younger siblings

And the tertiary audience would be anyone else interested in my magazine

Article Ideas

Article ideas I had in mind consist of: Exclusive interviews with famous indie artists, information on upcoming indie artists based in North London, News about future indie concerts in North London, Q&As with popular artists, concert and album reviews page and the top indie music charts

Resources

The equipment required for my magazine would be: A camera to take pictures, a tripod to stabilise the camera for a more professional look, camera lenses for different shot types, lighting equipment to create the right atmosphere for my photoshoots, a computer to edit and write up the magazine pages, and finally, editing software to edit and compose the design of the magazine

Personell

The people needed to make the magazine include: An artist to model for the cover and double page spread, a beauty team for the model, a camera operator to take the photos, an editor and designer to produce the front cover and pages of the magazine, a publisher to publish the finished product, and a supervisor to scout out locations for health and safety

Distribution

My magazine will be sold in news agents and supermarkets around North London, online, and delivered to your door

Marketing Methods

To advertise our magazine to the correct audience, social media adverts would be the way to go, as social media platforms are extremely popular amongst my target audience. So by advertising through multiple social media platforms, I can ensure that information about our magazine can reach our target audience

Billboards will also be effective as these can reach people outside of our target audience and billboards are seen in every day life

Competition

My magazine is specifically based on he vibrant music scene in north London, so people who dont live within the area may find it irrelevant

People may choose to buy the more popular, well known music magazines such as rolling stones, Q magazine, Smash Hits and Melody Maker as they’re more international

However, a Rolling Stones issue costs £9.99 and a Q magazine is around £4.90 (and smash hits and melody maker issues are worth a lot more now as there discontinued). Meanwhile my issues are only £4 for the online version, which means they’re more affordable for teenagers

Mood-board

This mood-board I put together displays Indie artists, Albums and magazine covers. It also includes colour pallets that I will incorporate into my magazine.

Sketches

These are my hand drawn sketches of the front cover and double page spread

The sketches give an idea of what the front cover and double page spread is going to look like, and where all the properties such as the puff, masthead, barcode etc are going to be placed.

Digital Sketch

The digital mock up gives a clearer and simpler visual to my magazine and what it will hopefully end up looking like when properly digitally designed

Thank you for listening, does anyone have any questions?

Amendments

Following my practice presentation, I have been told to amend my presentation, and I will alter some of my script accordingly. Below I will add a copy of my amended powerpoint, and the part of my script which I have changed, will be written in RED.

Introduction

Hello everyone

This is my pitch for my indie magazine ‘Indigo’

I settled on the title indigo because i feel that the name is quite unique and memorable

The title is in the font ‘Indie Rock’ and is in the colour indigo which matches the title and conveniently fits my colour scheme

Students can be eligible for a 10% student discount if they use their school email

I will use matte paper for my print version (which will be around 120 pages) as it allows the magazine to be recycled easily, and its also light weight

I will also include links to the magazines website and social medias a long with QR Codes and Spotify codes which readers can scan to listen to the artists music. And giveaways to win Meet and Greet or concert tickets

Target Audience

My primary target audience would be teenagers (13-19) of any gender and ethnicity. I chose this age bracket because around 13 is when you start to develop your own tastes, and Indie has a wide range of styles so hopefully more teenagers grown up to enjoy Indie music

The secondary audience would be people just a bit younger than the primary audience ( 11-12 ) as this age group can be influenced by those older than them

And the tertiary audience would be anyone else interested in my magazine

Article Ideas

Article ideas I had in mind consist of: Exclusive interviews with famous indie artists (questions will be received from fans), information on upcoming indie artists based in North London, News about future indie concerts in North London, Q&As with popular artists, concert and album reviews page and the top indie music charts

My double page spread will be an exclusive interview with the featured artist of that month (featured on the front cover) questions that fans have asked

Distribution

My magazine will be sold in news agents and supermarkets around North London, online, and delivered to your door. Distribution in the North London area would mean that my content reaches the correct audience. (People living in North London)

Marketing Methods

To advertise our magazine to the correct audience, social media adverts would be the way to go, as social media platforms are extremely popular amongst my target audience. So by advertising through multiple social media platforms, I can ensure that information about our magazine can reach our target audience

Billboards on roads, and posters in tube stations and bus stops will also be effective as these can reach people outside of our target audience and billboards are seen in every day life

Unique Selling Point

My unique selling point is that students can receive a 10% student discount when when signing up for a subscription package on my website when they use their school email.

I will also offer this service on the app unidays. If you are a verified student, you show your Unidays ID to the cashier when buying my magazine and you receive your 10% off discount

Fonts

The font I will use for my title is Indie rock. This font is indie and unique in itself so it fits the aesthetic of my magazine.

The font Bebas Neue will be used for the cover lines on the front page as it stands out yet doesn’t take attention away from the title.

And the form Ariel from the Sans Serif type face will be used for the main body, as its sophisticated and easy to read.

Colour Palette

I will be using a retro colour scheme for my magazine as it best fits the aesthetic im going for. These colours are also commonly used in Indie album covers

Mood-board

This mood-board I put together displays Indie artists, Albums and magazine covers. It also includes colour pallets that I will incorporate into my magazine.

Final PowerPoint Presentation

Final PowerPoint Presentation

Things I changed

I changed the theme of my powerpoint to make it a bit more appealing to the eyes and a bit more exiting.

Form and Price - I added in the potential amount of pages for my magazine so people can know how many pages they’re going to get.

Content - I mentioned information about QR codes and Spotify links to music, and meet and greet/Concert ticket giveaways as I mentioned this in my practice pitch document, but not in my script.

Target audience - I changed the secondary target audience to an age bracket slightly below my primary target audience, as they’re going to be the ones more likely to follow trends as they start to get older.

Article Ideas - I included the fact that the questions for our interviews will be sent in by fans and the fact that the double page spread will consist of the exclusive interview with the featured artist on the front cover.

Distribution - I added reasons as to why I chose my distributing methods such as, if I distribute to shops in North London, I can be sure my magazine is reaching the right magazine.

Marketing method -  I gave more detail as to what kind of billboards and posters Im going to use to advertise such as Posters at tube stations and Bus stops.

Potential Client Questions

-How will you pay for advertising techniques such as Billboards and Posters etc?

In order to generate income I will use free advertising techniques such as social media, then when my magazine starts gaining more popularity and generates more income, I can start paying for larger scale advertisements.

-How will you pay for the meet and greet/Concert tickets?

I will start off by using tickets for lesser known, upcoming artists who’s tickets would be a lot cheaper, or give us their tickets for free as were giving them publicity. Then as a generate more income, I can pay for bigger artists concert tickets.

-Why did you choose £4 - £4.99 as your price?

I chose £4 for my online version as its very affordable, yet still costs enough to keep making prints. Also its on the cheaper side of music magazines, so hopefully people will choose my magazine over others. And £4.99 is still a good price for the print version as its still on the cheap side, yet still pays for the shipping and printing fees.

-Why is your magazine the best out of your competition?

My magazine is among the cheapest of the options, and seeing as I’m selling it in North London, its more relevant to the people seeing it. My target audience would be more likely to buy my magazine which gives them information about North London rather than international magazines which give them information about artists in different countries.

-How will your online version be successful?

I feel my online version would be popular as its cheaper and young people are very passionate about helping the environment so I feel the online version will be a popular choice with the younger generation.

-How will you use your social medias effectively?

I will use my social media to spread news about my magazine through advertisements posts, and also behind the scenes posts to get people interested. I will post exclusive pictures of the featured artists, and share videos of them that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

-Will you offer anything exclusive to people who buy the online version?

The online version can include discount codes to buy the featured artists merchandise for a cheaper price. This will encourage people to get the online version with would mean more profit as were not printing and delivering magazines, and also its safer for the environment.
